Mount Angel Abbey in Saint Benedict, Oregon, is a community of 50 monks who live and work according to the Rule of St. Benedict. Close to half of our community are men who have entered the monastery in the past ten years. Our primary apostolate is the monastic life of prayer and work, following the 1,500-year-old Benedictine charism of ora et labora. Since 1889, we have operated Mount Angel Seminary, the oldest and largest seminary in the western United States, training men for the diocesan and religious priesthood. Our ministry of evangelization occurs naturally with visitors who come to Mount Angel to experience the hospitality, peace, and beauty of our guesthouse, library, and the Benedictine Brewery, or to join us for prayer in the Abbey church. We regularly host Monastic Discernment Retreats for men 18 to 45 years old interested in the Benedictine monastic life. Contact us to learn more.
