The first hermits of Mount Carmel saw in Mary all that they aspired to be: totally open to God, treasuring the words and the Word of God in her heart. Living as they did near the spring of Elijah on Mount Carmel, they drank in the spirit of the great prophet who waited upon the word of God in prayer and service. This deep current of Carmelite spirituality is expressed in the contemporary setting of the Carmel of the Sacred Heart. Our life is a simple one, spent in prayer, study and work, and in being aware of the goodness of God in persons, places and things that God provides, and the beauty of creation that surrounds us. All of this nurtures in each member the freedom of commitment, the joy of service and the gift of faithful love.
