In the wake of the French Revolution, St. Marcellin Champagnat and some of his seminary classmates were inspired by their love of Jesus and Mary to found a Society of Mary that would bring the Gospel of Christ’s mercy to those most in need. Within this Marist Project, Champagnat recognized a special need for teaching brothers to educate young people on the margins. Today, the Marist Brothers "make Jesus Christ known and loved" in about 80 countries alongside secular Lay Marists who share both our mission and spirituality. As evangelizers in the midst of youth, we work not only in schools, but also in camps and youth ministry initiatives, retreat centers, social outreach projects, parishes, and in migrant ministry. Whether serving at home or abroad, our brotherhood calls us to follow Christ as Mary did: "All to Jesus through Mary; All to Mary for Jesus!"
